Welcome to the InkSpire FAQs. Below, we answer the most common questions from prospective authors, partners, and curious creatives. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us.

About Publishing With Inkspire Publishing House

What is hybrid publishing?

Hybrid publishing combines the best of traditional and self-publishing. Like traditional publishing, you receive professional editorial, design, and distribution support. But you retain more creative control, author rights, and royalties like self-publishing. InkSpire operates on a values-based hybrid model that centres underrepresented voices and mission-aligned storytelling.

We are not a volume-based publisher. We work with select authors whose work aligns with our mission to amplify bold, equity-centred storytelling. Our model is collaborative, transparent, and purpose-driven. You won’t be left to figure it out alone and won’t lose your voice in the process.

We work with emerging and established authors across genres, including nonfiction, memoir, fiction, anthologies, and poetry. We prioritise authors from underrepresented communities, especially across Africa and the global diaspora, but welcome bold voices from all backgrounds.

No. We also work with authors who are still writing or developing their book ideas. If you have a strong concept or partial draft, we offer coaching, feedback, and a roadmap to help you get ready to publish.

We publish:

Nonfiction (leadership, justice, self-development, etc.)

Memoir & personal narrative

Fiction (social themes, cultural storytelling)

Poetry & anthologies

Narrative-driven DEI or movement-aligned works

We do not publish:

Erotica, hate speech, or works misaligned with our values

Academic textbooks or purely technical manuals

It depends on where you are in your journey. From submission to launch, full-cycle publishing typically takes 3–12 months. Authors in earlier development stages may work with us longer through coaching or editing support before publishing.

Author Rights, Royalties & Distribution

Do I keep the rights to my book?

Yes. As an InkSpire author, you retain full copyright and ownership of your work. We operate on a licensing model, you grant us the right to publish and distribute, but you keep the rights.

Yes, our books are distributed globally through major online retailers (Amazon, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble) and are available to bookstores via IngramSpark. We can also support launch events, author appearances, and bespoke distribution strategies based on your goals.

Our model ensures authors retain a significantly higher share of royalties than in traditional publishing. Exact royalty splits depend on your service pathway and distribution method, and are transparently outlined in our author agreements.

Submissions & Fit

How do I submit my work?

You can submit your manuscript, sample chapters, or even a strong concept via our [submission form]. We’ll review it and follow up with next steps if there’s alignment.

We review your work within 2–3 weeks.

We’ll invite you for a discovery call if there’s a potential fit.

If not, we’ll offer constructive feedback where possible.

Yes. As a hybrid publisher, we offer professional services on a co-investment model. You’ll receive a transparent service proposal after we review your submission. There is no fee to submit or apply, and no obligation to proceed.

We are the right fit if:

Your work speaks to justice, identity, healing, or social change.

You want a professional process without losing your voice.

You value partnership, clarity, and impact over speed or shortcuts.

You believe your story deserves to be seen—and want to do it right.

Writing Support & Development

Do you offer help with writing?

Yes. Through the InkSpire Academy, we offer coaching, editing, writing prompts, toolkits, and live workshops to help you grow your craft and finish your manuscript.

Absolutely. Many writers engage with us first through the Academy or coaching services before they’re ready to publish. We believe in building trust and clarity at every stage.

Yes. We offer ghostwriting and co-authoring services for authors with powerful stories who need help shaping their ideas into a full manuscript. Our approach is collaborative and deeply respectful. We work closely with you to ensure the final book reflects your voice, values, and vision. Whether you have a rough outline, audio notes, or just a story waiting to be told, our writers and editors can help bring it to life with care and craft.

Partnerships & Organisations

Do you publish on behalf of organisations?

Yes. We work with nonprofits, companies, and movements to publish anthologies, internal DEI stories, and branded equity narratives.
